Algae used for FuelScientists have discovered that algae can be used as an alternative fuel source. With the continued threat of fast depleting supplies of our natural resources such as fossil fuels scientists are scrambling to locate alternative fuel sources which can be used to power our homes, businesses, and cars.
Scientific studies suggest that Algae can be used as a Bio fuel to replenish our quickly vanishing fossil fuels. Algae is the leading, fastest replenishing, growing energy source in the world. Algae grows faster than any other natural resource such as coal, oil, or natural gas. Our natural resources are running dangerously low and scientists are now developing new energy sources such as solar power and Algae fuel. Ron Pate states: "First and foremost energy security and the desire to reduce dependence on imports is a part of the rational or the motivation for biofuels. It has been for a good while. And in more recent years, there has been greater concern about the desire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And biofuels, if done properly, have attractive features that could make them suitable for contributing to both of these issues. In the first place, they are one of the only or best options in a renewable stance to displace fossil-based liquid fuels, and then secondly if done appropriately they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Not all pathways are the same and so some biofuels if done improperly, can actually be no better than petroleum fuels, and could even be worse. Greenhouse Gas Emissions Can be Reduced: "However, if it is done properly the energy balance and the greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced. And the goal is to reduce them significantly, at least greater than 50%. And then finally it’s something that can be produced domestically and so can contribute to the U.S. economy in that way."
