Some people keep possum's as pets but most do not. If you have chicken's possum's can become a real threat by eating the chickens feed and killing chickens. We had one possum that scared us half to death. Our Rottweiler named Lucy was having puppy's under our house one night. The next night we heard loud banging and all of our dogs were barking which sounded like someone was breaking into our house. We called the police and the noise stopped. A few day's later a terrible stench of a dead animal was fast overtaking our home. A preliminary search under the house and we found a bloated dead possum. After calling animal control we discovered a single puppy was left of Lucy's litter of pups. Possum's are marsupial's. They carry their young in a pouch much like the kangaroo.
