How to clean your oven with a heavy duty oven cleaner
Heavy duty oven cleaners are available on the market and work very well. The problem with these cleaners is they are very toxic to you and the environment. However, there are now available many non toxic and fume free cleaner's that work almost as good as the traditional heavy duty cleaner's. If you are convinced that your oven must be cleaned with a heavy duty oven cleaner there are a few things you should know before you start.
Before you start:
Unplug the stove from the wall outlet if you have an electric stove or an electric pilot on a gas stove. (Less chances of electrical shock)
Wear a face mask to protect your lungs from the fumes.
Open your windows and doors before you start.
Rubber gloves should be used to prevent chemical burns on your skin.
Read and Follow the exact directions given on the product you purchase for oven cleaning.
Remove or cover heating elements with masking tape before applying the oven cleaner.
Apply the oven cleaner to a warm oven (not hot).
Wait the specified amount of time recommended on the manufacturer's instructions before washing and make sure you have your rubber gloves and your face mask on when you do it.
After washing, wipe your oven out with hot water several times-making sure that you have removed any traces of the oven cleaner.
Dry oven with a lint-free towel.
If oven is really dirty you may have to do this a second time.
Important: Do not plug your stove back in until the oven is completely dry. (Read the instructions on the cleaner).
After the oven is dried, plug it in and turn on the oven to 350 degrees for 30-minutes to an hour and then shut it off. Let it cool, make sure all fumes are gone from your home.
Note: Chemical cleaners are not recommended except in extreme cases
