Fossil Fuels & You

Fossil Fuels are one of the world's natural resources used to power our homes, vehicles, and machinery. Natural gas, oil and coal are created from the use of fossil fuels. We use this fuel for two thirds of our home electric, heating and cooling needs; we use them for our transportation needs as well.
Scientific reports and studies have indicated that, taking into consideration the population growth and our current rate of usage; If we continue to use our Natural Resources of Fossil Fuel's at the present rate that we are, it is estimated that we will run out of them by the year 2020! It is for this reason that we are being constantly bombarded with information on Going Green, tips which are intended to help us minimize our energy usage and learn to use other forms of energy, such as solar energy, wind power, and algae for fuel. We can easily limit our daily usage of plastic products. Reuse and Recycle whenever possible. Please read

How to Conserve Fossil Fuels & Improve our Environment
- Shut off lights when not in use
- Recycle
- Reuse
- Reduce
- Carpool, take a bus, or walk
- Unplug devices when not in use
- Make sure your vehicle has pollution prevention devices on the exhaust
- Report obvious air polluters like factories and industries
- Quit smoking
- Plant Trees-Trees absorb pollution
- Use natural alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power

Department of Energy Facts
DOE's Office of Fossil Energy (FE) has a key role in helping America meet its growing need for secure, fairly priced, and environmentally sound fossil energy supplies. FE's main goal is to ensure the U.S. can continue to rely on fossil fuels for clean, affordable energy. This is accomplished through two major efforts:

FE's main goal is to ensure the U.S. can continue to rely on fossil fuels for clean, affordable energy. This is accomplished through two major efforts:
- Emergency stockpiles of crude oil and heating oil
The Department is in charge of maintaining the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve. In the event of a major supply interruption, the President can release oil from these reserves into the market.
- Research and development of future fossil energy technologies
New technologies make future production and use of fossil fuels more efficient and environmentally cleaner. Coal-based power plants, due to FE's cutting edge R&D, can now produce electricity while creating almost no emissions. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from both existing and new coal-based power plants. The U.S. is now the world's leader in CCS science. FE is also working to diversify domestic natural gas supplies to meet the needs of American consumers. This includes making it safer and cleaner to produce gas from methane hydrate, shale, as well as from deepwater regions.
