Origin of Peaches
Peaches are a native fruit of China. They were shipped to the rest of the world via an ancient silk route as mentioned in tenth century writings. In Chinese culture the peach tree is perceived at the tree of life symbolizing immortality and unity. Chinese brides carry peach blossoms in their wedding ceremonies due to this belief. Chinese introduced peaches to the Persians (Iranians) who introduced peaches to the Roman's who called it the Persian apple. Alexander the Great, Columbus brought the first peach trees to America. Spanish explorers brought peach trees to parts of South America while the French brought them to Louisiana and the English brought them to Jamestown and Massachusetts colonies. Queen Victoria was served a peach in a fancy cotton napkin with every meal. (Scutti).
