Six stages of corn Growth development
There are basically six stages of growth during corn plant development.
Silking Stage-When silky looking strands can be seen outside the corn husks.
Blister Stage (10-14 days after silking)-To find out if corn is in the blister stage you will need to check the kernels. Kernels will be white and shaped like a blister.
Milk Stage (18-22 days after silking)-During the milk stage the corn kernels will be yellow (outer color shade depends on kind of corn) on the outside, with a milky inner fluid.
Dough Stage (24-28 days after silking)-The milky inner fluid will thicken and appear pasty during the dough stage.
Dent Stage (35-42 days after silking)-You will easily be able to tell when corn is in the dent stage because almost all of the kernels will be dented.
Physiological Maturity Stage (55-65 days after silking)-The black abscission layer (hard starch layer) forms at the base of the kernels. When this happens your corn plants do not need any more water (1).
