The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit has posted tips to keep people safe in the event of a robbery:
• If you are being followed don’t go home, drive
to the nearest police department, store or business for help. Honk your horn until somebody
notices you.
• Don’t wear expensive looking jewelry or flaunt
money.
• If someone tries to enter your car while you are
stopped, drive away quickly.
• Avoid using ATMs at night. Use ATMs that are
visible and well lit.
• Walk in open, well-lit areas. Avoid isolated
areas.

robber’s appearance, speech, and mannerisms.
• Step outside the store when the police arrive so that they will know the robber is
gone.
• Do not talk to the media, allow law enforcement to answer their inquiries.
• Do not discuss the amount of money taken
with anyone other than law enforcement.
